The Beer Cart
When asked to recommend a restaurant for someone from out of town most Bucharestians would probably pick this one. “The Beer Cart” (Carul cu bere in Romanian) is the flagship of Romanian restaurants in the old town. If you are a tourist not knowing any local, you are still most likely to end up here because this restaurant is in all the guidebooks. Fashioned to look like a German beerhouse, Caru cu bere has an elegant facade and a beautiful interior rich with frescoes, stained glass, balconies and ornate woodwork. The restaurant has first opened in 1879. It is packed every night, so you definitely need a reservation especially if you want to dine in the nonsmoking section (which shows that there are probably more foreigners dining here than Romanians). In the summer they have a terrace. The food here is standard Romanian fare, not fine dining, but usually you won’t leave disappointed. Big portions so make sure you leave space for desert. Despite looking so fanciful, I don’t believe it’s an expensive restaurant, but that of course depends on what you order. For lunch time they have a student menu (when you show you student card) and a menu for retired people (with pension coupon) for the equivalent of $8 and a daily lunch menu for business people for about $10. In the evenings they have a show with traditional dances.

Restaurant Isoletta
There was this Italian dining place I went to in Bucharest, and the top most feature, aside from the food, was the location. Being located on the lake’s premises, there is no question anymore why the place has the most beautiful sight. For the surrounds alone, I gave it five stars. But it did not stop there, for there were still few amazing things the restaurant flaunted. The interior’s hues were subdued. No flashy colors, all neutral ones that were so relaxed to the eyes. Even the tables and chairs were of warm tones. Very light and easy to look at, and it made the place cozy and chic, yet super elegant. Can be romantic at night too, especially when the candles at the center tables were lit.
The food was more of Italian, but with a twist. Our comfort foods like pizza and pasta were given a slightly new look by means of creative presentation and well-thought-off plating. That made it more salivating. The taste was authentic, yet there was something in it that made it even yummier than the original ones. I enjoyed my Italian food, and I am not going to deny that. My tummy was filled big time, but I managed to make room for some desserts, and yes, the wine. These two cap off everything and overall, I can only praise the food I had. From beginning to end—fantastic!
The price may not be that friendly for some, but here’s what I have to say: with that ambiance and with that mouthwatering dishes, the rate is just reasonable. This is not the usual fastfood Italian chain, this is by far the most elegant Italian resto in this place, and with delectable dishes to boot, the price is just fair.

Good old times (Golden Tulip Times Hotel)
A very good restaurant indeed. Featuring a very good range of Romanian and international dishes, the menu here changes regularly, usually in time with the seasons. The young chef is not afraid to try something new and different and note that if you fancy something which is not on the menu, don't be afraid to ask. Good local wine list. Note the last kitchen order is at 22:30.

Bistro Jaristea
Bistro Jaristea From the people who have long brought you some of the city's finest Romanian food comes this place, a contemporary eatery for friends. Duck breast with sweet cabbage, smoked fish and potato salad, baked carp with garlic and mamaliga are just a few of the great dishes you will find on the menu. Add in a bright, breezy setting, good service, visinata by the glass and you have a terrific new place to eat and spend most of the evening.

Bistro La Taifas
La Taifas means 'having a chat' and that's exactly what you and your friends will feel like doing at this tres jolie venue. We remain convinced that the original venue behind the Hilton on Str. Episcopiei was better, but this latest location is more spacious, and hosts more regular musical soirees. The food is great, and booking is still essential, especially if you want to sit on the terrace in good weather.
